Snapdragon 845 Powered Asus Rog Phone Is A Real Game-Changer

At this year’s Computex 2018 event, the ASUS Republic of Gamers introduced the ROG Phone, a first of its kind. The Republic of Gamers (ROG) Phone is powered by a mobile platform — the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform — that not only aptly handles the tasks associated with mobile gaming, it enhances the overall experience as well. It comes with X-mode, a setting that frees up all background RAM and dedicates it to games, optimizes game-data processing performance, and maximizes battery efficiency.

The phone has all of the features gamers will want: unprecedented speeds with Gigabit LTE and Multi-Gigabit 60 GHz Wi-Fi, configurable up to a massive 512 GB for plenty of game storage, an advanced cooling system, visual and audio technologies that captivate, and a unique design inspired by the traditional video game console. The Snapdragon 845 supports all of this and more, ensuring that the high-performance ROG Phone lives up to gamers’ unshakable standards.

A game-optimized mobile platform
The Snapdragon 845 tackles common issues for mobile gaming devices, including slow speeds, hot temperatures, and battery inefficiency. The mobile platform delivers faster and smoother graphics. Gamers will enjoy the speed-binned 2.96GHz Snapdragon 845, so they don’t miss a beat.

Connectivity speeds are also lightning fast. 60 GHz Wi-Fi supports extreme performance with Multi-Gigabit speeds and ultra-low-latency. And with Gigabit-LTE supported as well, users can rest assured their high-speed connectivity will stick with them on the move.

The Snapdragon 845 features the Qualcomm Adreno 630 GPU. The visual processing subsystem processes immersive videos and renders larger-than-life visuals 30 percent better than the previous generation. The Adreno 630 was developed with speed, minimal thermal throttling, and battery efficiency in mind, so gamers can play longer, without burning out the phone.

Keeping cool
Thermal throttling can throw off a user’s gaming experience, making the device not only hot, but slow as well. To prevent that from happening, the ROG Phone includes GameCool vapor-chamber cooling technology, which provides a 16X larger surface area for heat dissipation than a standard heat-pipe cooling system. The system is also enhanced with a copper heat spreader and carbon cooling pads on the circuit board for maximum cooling performance, so the ROG Phone doesn’t break a sweat, even after hours of gameplay. And a detachable, external AeroActive Cooler provides an extra cooling boost when you’re wrapped up in the heat of the moment.

Lights, sound, and plenty of action
The ROG Phone boasts a 6-inch, AMOLED display that has an ultrafast 90Hz refresh and 1-millisecond response time, so users can stay in the game without annoying lags.

The display also presents a wide 108.6 percent DCI-P3 (sRGB 145 percent) color gamut, so it’s capable of displaying HDR content. A 10,000:1 contrast ratio reveals the tiniest details found in games, photos, and videos for more lifelike visuals. And as the first phone with ASUS Aura RGB lighting, the ROG Phone uses light effects for incoming calls, notifications, and more.

To keep pace with its stunning visuals, the ROG Phone features audio technology that’s just as impressive. The device has front-facing stereo speakers that are driven by smart amplifiers that know when to maximize volume and minimize distortion. The Qualcomm Aqstic audio engine supports 24-bit/192KHz Hi-Res Audio playback and the wireless audio output is crisp thanks to Qualcomm aptX high-definition Bluetooth audio technology.

For more private gameplay, ASUS provides the DTS Headphone:X 7.1 surround sound solution, designed for theater-quality surround sound over headphones. It also supports high-definition audio via Bluetooth.

Console-inspired design
The ROG Phone boasts powerful, gaming-focused performance in its interior, but its exterior also caters to the ultimate gamer. The device is designed with special features and a site-mounted port that make it feel just like a video game console.

The device has three AirTrigger touch sensors and advanced haptics: Two are optimized as left and right triggers at the top of the display when the device is in landscape mode, and the third is for use in portrait mode. The sensors are easily programmable for any on-screen action such as aiming, firing, and selecting inventory. Ultrasonic technology is also incorporated in the AirTrigger touch sensors, so the three only need the lightest touch to be prompted.

And to push the gaming experience further, the ROG Phone supports a variety of peripherals, including an optional TwinView Dock for dual-screen handheld mode, a Mobile Desktop Dock for desktop-style gaming, and the Gamevice controller with WiGig Dock for screen-casting onto a big screen via 60 GHz Wi-Fi. With these options, users can expand their mobile gaming world even further.

The ASUS ROG Phone is expected to be available later this summer; more information on pricing and availability will be found on the ASUS ROG Phone site.
